About 2 months ago, my good friend Andres gave me a book and said: “This book will save your life. You can thank me later. :)” It sounded so serious and it made me even more curious, since I wasn’t sure that me life needed to be saved. The book that will “save” my life is #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso.

Probably most of you have no idea who Sophia is, but I did and I instantly realised  what my friend was talking about. Sophia is the founder, CEO and Creative Director of Nasty Gal, a multimillion dollars online fashion retailer, based in LA and awarded “Fastest Growing Retailer” in 2012 by INC Magazine. Sophia started Nasty Gal in 2006, as an eBay store, selling vintage clothing. The success was enormous and in 2008 nastygal.com was now online and no longer an eBay store. Nasty Gal grew fast, with no loans and with only 50$ initial investment. Sophia’s story is quite different than any CEO’s story you’ve ever read about. She is not highly educated, no diplomas to brag with, she was actually a strange smart kid who never really found school interested enough to continue her  studies. To discover how she made it happen, how was it possible for a company to become so big in such a short time, run by a girl with apparently no experience, you’ll have to read the book. I promise, it’s an interesting story.

The book is about Sophia and Nasty Gal, but also much more than that. Sophia wrote in her book the truth about herself (about the fact that the first thing she ever sold on eBay was stolen) and about her company, but also about the incredible amount of things she learned on the way. She tells it like you would expect somebody to tell you, not wrapped up in a fancy story that is so hard to believe. She gives the insights about fashion and fashion weeks, about how it really is to grow a company, about what it might help to reach success, about what it takes to be a #GirlBoss. If you ever wanted to become self employed, if you ever had dreams you thought were impossible to reach, if you ever thought you can’t do it, than read the book. By the time you finish it, everything will be possible… and everything is.

Success comes in many ways, and it’s about trusting your instincts, believe in it before anyone else, work like hell, put your heart into it, do everything for your customers like you would do it for yourself, and yes, it’s also about a little bit of luck. Don’t count on luck too much though, because it won’t do your job. It’s you who is writing your destiny. Luck is just there to give you a hand in need.

Should you read this story? Definitely.

Will it help in any way? For sure.

Will you be inspired? Absolutely.

Are you a #girlboss? You’ll find out the answear after you read the book.
